You don’t need to feel isolated, frustrated, or fearful anymore!
We understand that having a problem with your speaking, thinking, or swallowing can make you feel embarrassed, defeated, or scared.
Your quality of life hinges on your ability to think, remember, make your needs and wants known, and eat and drink what you enjoy the most. These are skills that we don’t often think about – maybe we even take them for granted.
That is until our body or brain doesn’t work the way we need it to…
Getting started…
If you have already had a speech or swallowing evaluation or treatment completed by another therapist, we would be happy to connect with them. If your doctor or other medical provider has given you a medical diagnosis that may result in the need for speech services, we would like to hear about your previous evaluation and treatment. If not, no worries!
We will conduct our evaluation during our first meeting to get to know you and understand what you are feeling and experiencing. We will use conversations and tasks in our office or online to get an in-person look at your daily challenges.
Using the data from your evaluation and your personal feelings and goals, together, we will develop a plan to meet these needs through therapy. This plan can include enhancing your speech and communication to make it more easily understood, improving your voice, eating a steak during a family gathering, or reading your favorite book easily again!
Goals and treatment plans will incorporate your areas of interest as well as the important people in your life. We know and believe that the more motivation and enjoyment therapy brings, the more successful you will be.
Get ready to take back your quality of life!!
Let’s talk about the work we’ll do together…
Therapy can include teaching you exercises to make your lips, tongue, and throat stronger.
We have a variety of techniques that can retrain your mouth and throat for better speech and eating. We also use some of the same methods singers use to create or restore the quality voice you desire.
If you are worried about your thinking, remembering, or your ability to participate in conversations with friends or family, our memory enhancing and cognitive stimulation programs may be of benefit. We can keep your brain young and fit! You’d be surprised how easy it can be – sometimes the simplest tricks, like saying the alphabet backward, can improve your cognitive flexibility. It’s almost like jumping jacks and sit-ups for your brain.
Here’s what therapy looks like.
Treatment can last anywhere from 30-60 minutes a session, depending on your needs. Your therapist will develop individualized treatment sessions during which you will be reading, writing, speaking, thinking, or eating!
We will give you techniques to be learned and practiced. During one session, we may focus on ways to say the words you want to say or how to keep foods and liquids from going down the wrong pipe, while next time, we’ll practice budgeting and balancing a checkbook. Or maybe we’ll write your granddaughter a birthday card or see how strong your voice can be while singing happy birthday to her! It all depends on what you need and what is important for you to be successful!
We are prepared to challenge and motivate you. Training your brain to do something new or retraining old connections in your brain are worked on each session. That’s hard work! But we are going to do it together, and we promise you are going to feel accomplished and fulfilled when we’re done.
Despite what you may think, Speech Therapists do a lot more than “help someone talk.” We help people think through tasks, remember the important things, problem solve, and increase their level of independence! We can also get our clients eating and drinking their favorites again. We do this in a comfortable environment in which you will thrive and meet your highest potential!
